What Our Goal Means To The League,
Community and Beyond
Investing in Our Future and the Community Who Support Us
About Shawano Hockey League
The Shawano Hockey League (SHL) offers hockey programs for boys and girls aged 4 to 14 from Shawano and nearby school districts. As a Division 3 member of the Wisconsin Amateur Hockey Association (WAHA) in Region 3, SHL is dedicated to fostering a love for hockey.
We are a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, run entirely by volunteers. Our dedicated parents manage the rink and the league, helping us keep player fees significantly lower than those of neighboring associations.
About Shawano Hockey League Capital Campaign Committee
The Campaign Committee is comprised of parents of various level players in the league. We have dedicated a little extra time, to be able to aid in the fundraising goals for the program. Not only to better the equipment and practices of the league, but to also aid in the investment of the community as a whole.
Our First and Foremost Goals
Our first financial goals as a committee, is raising proceeds to aid in purchase of a new ice chiller system and zamboni.
The current ice chiller system was installed when the Crawford Center was built 20+ years ago. The system is past its prime and in serious need of replacement. Parts and upgrades are unavailable for this system and near impossible to repair to the full extent. We have been battling issues with it for the past two years consistently. We fear daily that the system will go down and we will have a pool, instead of an ice rink. Without a functioning chiller system, we do not have hockey, adult hockey, open skate, ice rental times for organizations, families, schools, etc. It would be a huge hit to the community.
Our Zamboni is functional, but it is costing our league a lot of money yearly to keep it that way. We are looking to invest in a new unit to help keep costs lower and avoid the time when it is now longer usable in a situation that would be detrimental. The Zamboni is a mechanical ice resurfacer. It works by scraping the ice surface and collecting the snow (which is later discarded). Next, it "cleans" the ice, by putting down water which flushes the grooves deep in the ice, loosening any dirt or debris. The excess water and dirt is then collected. This is done several times a day, based on the number of events or practices that are held. Without it, the ice would become unusable and unsafe.
The total monetary goal for these items is about $250,000. This in a large sum of money for the league to incur all at once, so we turn to our community and supporters to assist in making our rink to remain available to, not only our youth hockey players, but the community.
